The CrazyLake Acting Company returns to the Ricks Centre for the Arts with “Once Upon a Mattress,” its first summer musical in three years.
“Once Upon a Mattress” is the musical retelling of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale, “The Princess and the Pea.”
Many moons ago in a far-off place, Queen Aggravain (Noelle Russell) decreed no one could marry until her son, Prince Dauntless (Chris O’Connor), found a bride. Princesses came from far and wide but none could pass the Queen’s impossible tests. That is, until the “shy” swamp princess, Winnifred the Woebegone (Katie Brown), shows up. Would she be able to pass the Sensitivity Test, marry her prince and help Lady Larken (Alexandra Gawrys-Strand) and Sir Harry (Cael Savidge) to the altar? Told with a wave of wonderful songs and choreography, this rollicking spin on the classic tale is suitable for the entire family.
